 Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers all around the world. According to research, the prevalence of breast cancer was recorded at 50 per 100,000 populations. Thus, you probably want to know some breast cancer facts and the truth behind it. Here are some facts about breast cancer that you probably need to know.

 1. Breast cancer is not experienced by women, but men too

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), men are proven to have breast cancer. Although the number is 100 times lower than women, it is estimated there will be 2,550 cases of breast cancer in men that occurred in 2018.

2. Lumps are the most common symptom of breast cancer

If breast cancer spreads to the lymph nodes, it can cause lumps and swell around the collarbone or under your arm. If you feel a lump in the area, do not hesitate to see a doctor.

3. Skin changes and pain are also symptoms of breast cancer

ACS added that the symptoms of breast cancer are not only through lumps. Other symptoms are breast swelling, breast pain or nipples, inverted nipples, changes such as red, scaly, and thickening of the breast or nipple skin, and nipple fluid that is not breast milk.

4. Although it is not perfect, mammograms are still important

Currently, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that every woman with an average risk of developing breast cancer undergo a mammogram every one to two years, starting at the age of 40. However, it depends on your personal risk factors, because you might need to be examined on a different schedule, starting at a different age. Drinking alcohol, being overweight or obese, being lazy to move or not being active, using hormone therapy while not having children, and not breastfeeding, all of these things can increase the risk of breast cancer. 7. Wearing a bra will not make you get breast cancer

Do not believe the myth that says wearing a bra can make you develop breast cancer. There is no scientific basis for the claim, according to the ACS, there is no link between bra use and breast cancer.

8. Deodorant is also not proven to cause breast cancer

Most deodorants or antiperspirants contain aluminum-based compounds that temporarily block the sweat ducts. Lots of information around us say that deodorant containing aluminum can cause breast cancer. However, according to the ACS, there is no evidence and research to prove this.

9. Women who have cancer usually don't have the same family history

Surely there are those who think that you will not develop breast cancer if there is no family that experiences it. However, that is not true. Family history does increase your risk, but the majority of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer don't even have a family member who has a similar disease.
